Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) Tariff

The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) is a UK government initiative that came into effect on January 1, 2020, replacing the previous Feed-in Tariff (FiT) scheme. The SEG requires licensed electricity suppliers to offer payments to  generators for the electricity they export back to the National Grid. Eligible technology include solar photovoltaic (PV) panel

Key aspects of the SEG tariff include:

Increasing Export Rate for FiT Consumers to 15 Pence per kWh

Switch to accurate measurements of export and increase and be credited for the unit rate of excess energy you send back to the grid!

You can choose to opt out of using estimated export values and instead opt into using accurate measurements. Additionally, you may apply to use accurate measurements exclusively for the export summary.

Summary Details: Export will be recorded directly from the smart meter and registered with an MCS certificate.

New Consumers Post-2020

For consumers who installed their solar panels or other eligible technologies after January 2020, only the SEG is available. They can apply for SEG tariffs directly with electricity suppliers that offer competitive rates, potentially up to 15 pence per kWh for exported electricity.

Steps for New SEG Applicants

Install Eligible Technology: Ensure that the solar PV panels or other low-carbon technology installed meet the SEG eligibility requirements.

Install a Smart Meter: A smart meter or an export meter must be installed to measure the exported electricity.

Choose a Supplier: Research and choose an electricity supplier offering a competitive SEG tariff, up to 15 pence per kWh.

Apply and Register: Apply for the SEG with the chosen supplier (we will asssit you), providing all necessary documentation and agreeing to their terms.

By following these steps, both existing FiT consumers and new post-2020 consumers can maximize their export payments and contribute to the grid with their renewable energy production.
